Endoscopic Spine Surgery

Endoscopic spine surgery uses a camera and instruments passed through an incision often less than one centimeter long. It lets Dr. Robert Ames remove a herniated disc fragment or relieve pressure on a nerve while disturbing as little muscle and tissue as possible.

Dr. Ames is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon offering endoscopic spine surgery to patients in Sewell, Cherry Hill, and across South Jersey.

Conditions treated

  • Lumbar herniated discs and sciatica
  • Foraminal and lateral recess stenosis
  • Select cases of cervical radiculopathy

Why endoscopic?

Smaller incisions generally mean less post-operative pain, less blood loss, and a faster return to normal activity. Most endoscopic procedures are outpatient, so patients go home the same day.

Is it right for me?

Endoscopic surgery is best suited to focused problems, such as a single disc herniation pinching one nerve. Multi-level disease, instability, or deformity usually needs a different approach. Dr. Ames will tell you plainly which technique fits your diagnosis.

Common questions

Will I be asleep? Depending on the procedure, it is done under general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthetic.

When can I walk? Most patients walk the same day.
